Ashton tested last year in the spring for the First Grade Gifted and Talented program at school, which is called Horizons Class. At first we thought she made it in. We got a letter a month later that led us to believe she didn't. Today we got the letter that in fact she did make it in along with the permission slip to join the class or "cluster" as they call them now (what the hell is wrong with the names we all grew up with).
Anyway, we always knew she was gifted and talented, it's nice that the Cy Fair ISD school system got their act together and recognized it as well.
I'm a proud papa :)
This morning I was the first one up in the house. I've been pretty sick the past two weeks and have not been out of bed all that much, so getting up so early was nice for a change.
Around 7:05 I went to go start the coffee and Ashton was already up sitting in the living room. I asked her why she didn't knock on the door and let us know she was up to which she replied "Dad, mom doesn't like to be woken up early".
True, one point for the kid.
I sat and talked with her for a bit, which is always great. She asked me if mom was up yet and I told her no, I was letting her sleep a little bit longer to which she replied "Good, then you can get her coffee going".
True again, another point for the kid.
I watched the kids this morning and they both pretty much left Corri alone until after she had her cup of coffee in hand.... THEN they started asking for things.
Kids can be pretty observant.
The result is in...
"First Grade Is Cool" - Ashton Meri Huff after returning home from her first day of first grade.
Today was "The Move" here at the Huff House. I packed up my office and moved it to the dining room and Ashton moved into my old office. The kids now have their own rooms. We thought it time and with the end of summer here the timing seemed right. So Ashton will start first grade next Wednesday with her own room.
The upside for me is that I have a much bigger and cooler area to work in, the down side is that it's much louder in here. Hopefully that will change a bit once Ashton starts back to school... sigh, we'll see.
The big news today is that Grant has finally started to use the toilet. There have been about 8 people working on him over the past month to get trained to use it and it finally has started to work. Corri worked it pretty much the same way as she did with Ashton, get them really cool underwear that they really like and start giving it to them as they use the toilet... Grant doesn't want his Power Rangers underwear messed up. Of course he is in the bathroom every few minutes trying to go again because Corri is making such a huge fuss over it. Hopefully the days of diapers are soon to be over here at the Huff House.
Last Sunday I hurt my back yet again (damn old back). I've been pretty much laid up all week and not getting a ton of work done. I hate it when I do this because it makes me feel pretty much useless. But here it is Thursday and things are feeling better, so hopefully in a few more days I'll be back to 100%.
We have two more weeks left of summer vacation for Ashton. She starts FIRST GRADE on the 16th! That is just so damn cool. I'm excited to see what this year will bring for her. For me, 1st grade is when I remember really starting to learn stuff. I think I'm looking forward to junior high the most for her... I'm too easily excited over this kind of stuff.
In celebration of going back to school, we are throwing her a pool party on Saturday. She has invited over friends from school and family friends as well. If you get this, and are looking for something to do on Saturday, give us a call, we'll be doing hot dogs and burgers and such while around the pool most of the day.
Work is going very very well. I'm excited about what the end of 2006 is going to bring around.
Everything else is going as planned here at the Huff House, hope all is well with you and yours.
